Columbia University in New York City has announced disciplinary actions against students involved in last year’s occupation of a campus building during a pro-terrorism demonstration.
According to the university’s judicial board, penalties include long-term suspensions, temporary revocation of degrees, and expulsions for those responsible for seizing Hamilton Hall, which demonstrators had briefly renamed Hind’s Hall. However, the institution has not disclosed how many students faced these measures.
The university has been facing mounting scrutiny from the Trump administration and Republican lawmakers in Congress over antisemitism on campus. A congressional investigative panel has demanded that Columbia provide all disciplinary records associated with such acts.
In response to ongoing tensions, the federal government has already withdrawn $400 million in funding from the university, with further financial cuts amounting to billions potentially on the table. Additionally, federal immigration authorities detained a prominent campus pro-terrorism leader Mahmoud Khalil on Saturday.
